Comments: It was an honor to catch the Funk Guitar Seminar at Preservation Hall on 5/3/07. Your playing was far more educational than any question/answer session would have been. "Up All Night" has also not left my CD player since coming home from Jazz Fest. Keep up the good work, man. Love the arrangement of "Ring Of Fire". You don't mind if we steal it, do you? :-) Mike C.

Comments: CD Review Brian Stoltz East Of Rampart Street Long Overdue Music Long one of Louisiana's most gracious musicians, Brian Stoltz has produced a great record that is some Long Overdue Music, to borrow a phrase. Equally comfortable carving it up with the likes of the funky Meters, the Grateful Dead or the New Orleans Radiators, Brian Stoltz is known worldwide for his guitar palying and his vibe. With the cd East Of Rampart Street, new fans and old ones too finally have a record stamped STOLTZ and fit for latenight listening, mad morning coffee-breaks, happy-hour toe tapping and everything in between. The list of guest stars that helped make East Of Rampart Street is proof positive that the inspiration and kindness shared at live Brian Stoltz shows gets captured and celebrated. "Stealing thunder is the name of the game" Art Neville sings, and I agree. From the all-out funk anthem Down, to the wall-crumbling Funky Forever, to the howling blues feelings of This Ole World, Brian Stoltz cannot and will not be pinned down. Stoltz is a guitar-master in my eyes and with East Of Rampart Street he proves to everyone that he is way more then that. This record boils over with great writing, great arrangements. It is seeing nationwide airplay and local stores cannot keep enough in stock, folks are Fearless to check it out. Gunther@Razooli.com <><><><><><><><> CD Review God,Guns & Money Brian Stoltz Gut wrenching, straight from the heart and glazed with wide eyed commentary, God,Guns & Money, the latest solo album from funky Meter's and PBS guitarist Brian Stoltz, subverts many paradigms, but most of them are totally unexpected. Informed and intimate, the words, the music of Brian Stoltz come from a heightened, some say enlightened, perspective. With some cintilating help from pedal steel wizard Dave Easely, the world citizen in Brian Stolz comes clean with Opposite Sides Of The War. "But they're just brothers, mothers fathers, friends that I adore, all of them figting on opposite sides of the war." Having family in the military can often not only change the way the world looks to you, it also serves to paint how the world looks at you. Rather then breaking from silence,Stoltz simply tells the part of the story he doesnt think you've heard. Using a Dylan-esque yet 100% original, genuine americana, Brian Stoltz gets his point across as only a great artist can. Art imitates life and when the track, The Greatest Armed Robbery In History, begins with, "stuck in this desert land, my lonely heart hurtin', slowly realize I'm here protecting halliburton. I make eight hundred bucks a month my wife has gone astray, while mercenaries bill us for about a grand a day," you get the sense this is not your typical "give peace a chance" tune. In fact, The Greatest Armed Robbery In History features Brain Stoltz on vocals, guitars, drums, bass & tambourine ! And it smokes ! This cd is such a quality piece of work it even includes a Christmas song ! See what I mean about paradigms. There is even a song on here that will make you yearn to have grown up in Louisiana had you not already been so blessed. Still Some Sense Left In The World unfurls a tale that only the Ponchatrain and the Mississippi could understand. Yet even when Brian goes Downtown he cannot get away from his home cooked concious. "Hustled hard for a weekend pass, I need a back alley cafe, turned down no matter how I tried, kissed all the brass I could pay." Up front and honest, God Guns & Money is a funky, r&b record that will not only stand on its own for its rythmical genious, it might just sum up a decade and wind up in the non-fiction section of the library. Give this cd a plug , your ears deserve it. Gunther@Razooli.com <><><><><><><><> CD Review Brian Stoltz God,Guns & Money With infectious, funky driven meter-time, Brian Stoltz engages the populous with chart topping guitar work guaranteed to soothe your soul. A title track as juicy as the nightly news, followed by a "War Song" so heart-felt you will want to bear witness. Yeah, that is how God,Guns & Money, the latest from Brian Stoltz, proves there is "still some sense left in the world." The track entitled "What Is Real" unionizes a global sense of emptiness no modern industrialized complex could ever avoid. Brian Stoltz is way more then a guitar player, after all he is human ! Excursions like "The Greatest Armed Robbery In History" and "Opposite Sides Of The War" speak a downright truth-bearing language long before they conjur any kind of political agenda. God,Guns & Money sticks its chin out and struts. This fine piece of work is more of a contest then a protest, are you in ? Brian Stoltz is asking.... Gunther@Razooli.com Yall take care and never stop supporting one one of the greats, Brian Stoltz. -Lex

Comments: Live review - Brian heats up Allman's set at the Beacon Theatre! --------------------------------------------- A Perfectly Peachy night at The Beacon!!!! Well my friends, Saturday night basically ripped from start to finish until it positively erupted in the show closing climax of Dreams (Derek!), Mountain Jam>Drums>Bass>Mtn Jam, Whipping Post finale. The last hour of the show was as powerful as anything I’ve ever witnessed at a live show and I’m not kidding. If you were there, you most likely know just I’m saying. The show had a really special vibe and “feel” literally right from the start. The crowd was really groovin’ and was probably one of the best crowds I’ve seen recently. It seemed like a lot of hard-core folks were there – including Bill Walton who had a permanent grin a mile wide all night long. After seeing Big Bill multiple times over the past two Beacon runs – he now is a full blown Peachhead... I’ll try and give you some of my show highlights besides the obvious ones which closed the show. As far as where I was sitting – I stood in the aisle not more that 20 feet in front of Gregg who had one of those special Gregg Allman nights where his voice was crystal clear and very strong throughout. An A+ performance from Gregg. The first set was excellent with a real nice selection of songs that flowed nicely. “Who’s Been Talkin” which is one of personal faves was an early hightlight – man I love that tune and it was played brilliantly! Later on, “Desdemona” was long and simply flawless and the Jazzy jam break was surreal at times with both Derek and Warren really nailing their solos like only they can. It was an amazing version with Gregg providing the inevitable goosebumps on vocals. Then we got a super-charged “Hot ‘Lanta” that was tight all hell – they were just killing it. The band was really charging at this point and it was inevitable that were going to get on of those shows that would be talked about for a while to come. “Come and Go Blues” was also really sweet and “The Weight” closer was really moving and downright spunky. The second set opened with a rare “Preachin Blues” with only Warren and Derek – I thought that was cool as hell. Derek is brilliant at that Delta Blues style guitar. “Who To Believe” which followed I loved! It was really a perfect song to hear at that moment and I was diggin’ it BIG time.. The “Same Thing” with Brian Stoltz was probably the best non-horn “Same Thing” I’ve ever heard. I just saw Brian play not 3 weeks ago with PBS and Steve Kimock so I knew how good he is and he really smoked his solo and really added to the funkiness of the song. There are certain players who get a bit intimidated by Derek and Warren and almost freeze up there. Not the case with Brian Stoltz. He was playing his ass off and looked like he loved the challenge. ...The roof was really starting to come off the Beacon at this point – the jamming was incendiary. I think when the discs of this show start to get circulated it will be confirmed how magical the playing was on this night. “Melissa” was a bit different last night– a bit quicker and tighter than usual - maybe not different, just better. Gregg’s voice was on the money and the crowd sang every word with him and loudly too I might add. Okay…so now all the pieces are in place for it go completely over the top and it will. So all of a sudden “Dreams” is starting but just a bit differently than usual. This version started with Gregg providing these gorgeous B-3 swells just like on the original studio version of “Dreams”!!! It sounded like it was 35 years ago - it was bone chilling. Man, I’m telling you it was a thing of beauty and gave it an even spacier vibe. What made it even better was knowing we were getting a Derek “Dreams” – his solo was a perfect 10. It was powerful and cutting and emotional, - just a masterpiece. “Dreams” is always s nice but on special night like these, it even more poignant. Well at this point you already know about the ending…Knockout blow after knockout blow. A “Mountain Jam” for the ages was played that IMO is the BEST MJ this lineup has ever done! Explosive jams around every corner...powerful solos from Warren, Derek and Gregg... We climed the Mountain right along with the band and and stood at the ^^summit^^together!. A looong incendiary “Whipping Post” was a perfect encore to this perfect show which is now etched in my mind for a long time. Thank you ABB and Peachheads for a real good time! Comments: Stoltz once again ripped up Alligator Alley three nights straight. When Brian last played here a month or so ago for the Riverwalk Fest after party he brought up Russell Batiste for a few tunes. This time Porter came up for a killer "Love Slip Up On YA" and Cissy Strut". Also sitting in was opening act blues great Michael Pickett from Toronto. Stoltz is becoming a fixture in Florida venues having the Fort Lauderdale rhythm section of Carl "Kilmo" Pacillo on bass, Jeff Renza on drums and Bob Taylor on keys. Keep coming back Brian!
